I’ve just bought your book this morning and only skimmed through but I think your analysis is accurate. I was surprised when Martin Berkhan finally published his Leangains book that fasting was almost absent except for an option to make life simpler. There was no magic claimed for his 16:8 diet. Similarly Brad Pilon is quite explicit that there is no magic to his fasting approach - one or two 24 hour fasts a week- it is just a convenient way to get a deficit, putting the deficit into one or two days rather than across the full week. Also his approach of limiting to 24 hours infrequently should avoid some of the negative hormonal impacts.

There is no magic though.

Also I smiled when you mentioned Jimmy Moore in the book. He was such a big figure for years and now he is in prison as a pedo.

A great article as always. The calories in, calories out approach has a good critique here. https://www.jayfeldmanwellness.com/the-mythical-calorie-equation/
